8:00 AM – 8:45 AM: Light Breakfast & Coffee with Exhibitors/Sponsors

Paul-Wang-750x11258:45 AM – 10:15 AM: Disruptive Innovation: An Industry Discussion Moderated by Dr. Paul Wang, Associate Professor, Medill IMC Program, Northwestern University

Reading Assignment: Competing Against Luck by Clay Christensen, Taddy Hall, Karen Dillon and David S. Duncan.

FIRST 150 MEDIA EXECUTIVES THAT REGISTER WILL RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF COMPETING AGAINST LUCK

The Innovator’s Dilemma by Clay Christensen rocked the media industry’s world more than a decade ago. Terms such as “Jobs to be Done” and “Fail Fast; Fail Cheap” have become part of the industry’s vocabulary since the book was published.

Christensen’s latest book, Competing Against Luck, applies these principles to current-day disruptors such as Uber, Airbnb and Amazon.

In this opening session, the dynamic Dr. Wang will lead a very interactive group discussion. The goal is to help media companies identify the current-day “jobs to be done” and develop strategies around those jobs. A small group exercise will also take place with LMA board members serving as table moderators.

All attendees are asked to read the book prior to this session.  Seats will be pre-assigned to ensure proper diversity and maximize the small group exercise at each table. All attendees are welcome to participate. Please inform Lindsey Estes if you will not be participating in this session. Seats will be available in the back for those that did not read the book or can’t stay for the entire session.

  • Project Tomahawk is Graham Media’s local content aggregation strategy
  • EOS is focused on culture, vision, values and results at Big Fish Works

All three are solid plans that are transferable to other markets. Don’t miss this session!

About Media Transformation 2017: This will serve as LMA’s premiere event of the year. Formerly called the Innovation Conference and held in September, the event has been moved to August in beautiful Chicago. This separates it from the busy September/October conference season. Survey results from LMA’s media members showed great support for the move and timing of this conference. R&D partners also agreed that this was a good move and gave them breathing room in between the other fall events.

How We are Driving Attendance to this event: We have a number of strategies to drive media attendance and get the right people to this conference including:

  • The first 150 media execs that register will get a copy of Clay Christensen’s new book, Competing Against Luck. The opening session will feature a moderated discussion about the book and the media industry’s “jobs to be done” in order to truly transform.
  • A $150 discount will be available to the first 60 media executives that sign up to meet with five R&D partners in private, one-on-one meetings, in 15-minute increments. (Limit one per media company – see more details below).
  • The first 135 that sign up will get a ticket to the Cubs vs. Reds game
