This part of the program will feature sessions that highlight the work of the first place winners in the Local Media Digital Innovation contest. This extremely competitive contest, judged by the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin Engaging News Project, featured entries from more than 80 different local media companies. Most of the categories are judged by size (number of monthly unique visitors) so that both small and large media companies are recognized for their innovative efforts.
The Engaging News Project at the University of Texas at Austin advances both journalistic and business goals making them an ideal judge for the local media digital innovation contest.

This category was highly competitive so this session should be a one of the major highlights of the day and a must-attend for anyone that wants to grow their digital marketing services revenue.

We’ll hear about the exciting work going on from our innovators of the year. No category generated more entries than this one. Twelve companies were nominated and the competition was intense. The judges considered two things when choosing the winners: the actual entries from the media companies that explained how this R&D partner helped them grow digital revenue and went above and beyond with support and training, as well as the number of votes cast for each one. We’ll hear from the first and second place winners during this session. We’ll also share some of the comments that came from the entries.

11:05 AM – 11:45 AM: Innovation Mission: Austin/Dallas – 3 Top Takeaways, Presented by Nancy Lane, President, Local Media Association; Jed Williams, Chief Innovation Officer, Local Media Association and several IM attendees (to be announced soon).
The first IM of the year included visits with progressive media and technology companies in Austin and Dallas. The takeaways were many especially on the digital agency side (eye-opening visits with the Dallas Morning News, Lin Digital/Nexstar, Advocate Digital Media, Simpli.fi, Own Local and more). In this closing session, Lane and Williams will share some of the valuable learnings from this intense three-day trip.
