While there is a lot of conversation about “fake news,” digital ad fraud is projected to cost publishers and advertisers $19 billion in 2018, with many exploits targeting local media. To illuminate this issue, the LMA is partnering with ad fraud detection company DEVCON Detect and, a nonprofit that seeks to call attention to the publisher and consumer cost of ad fraud. Join Maggie Louie, CEO of DEVCON, Jed Williams, LMA Chief Innovation Officer, Dick van Halsema, CEO of OpsCo and Matthew Costa, Director of Digital Operations, WEHCO Media for a webinar on Wednesday, October 24 at 2 p.m. ET (1 CT) to help local media understand the impact of ad fraud and how they can combat it, with free tools to get started.

Through, LMA will offer its members free access to DEVCON’s Freedom for Media tools for three months to fuel the largest study of ad fraud in local media to date. With these tools, publishers will have free ad fraud detection scans and reports that include exploits, malware, cookie stuffing and other issues affecting their sites, and their users. The aggregated data from this study will inform a white paper in 2019, as well as academic research, to help make publishers, networks and consumers more aware of the true scale and cost of ad fraud. There is no cost for publishers to participate, and the program will deliver instant insights to LMA members on how much ad fraud is occurring on their sites – and what they can do to prevent it.
